Merit badges during social distancing

Council Advancement Committee

In this time of disruption, BSA understands there are viable alternatives that still meet the intent and spirit of the normal processes and allow parents and youth to take advantage of unusually available time. These can result in extended learning opportunities producing continued Scout advancement.

Under regular circumstances, the Sequoia Council believes that the best way to earn a Merit Badge is the tried and true process of a Scout or two interacting directly in a face-to-face manner with a certified MBC that has skills in a subject matter that can be shared with our Scouts.

One such resource came out recently in Bryan on Scouting which you may have seen. As long as the process is followed of a Scout selecting a Merit Badge and having a review with the Scoutmaster to obtain a Blue Card before beginning the work and the family has the available resources to do the work required, this is a viable approach to continued Scouting advancement activities. Thus, we encourage you to review the Bryan on Scouting document below.  Use it as a guide to continued Advancement work during the next few months, until schools and Scouts return to more normal circumstances.

Good Scouting to all!
