Dear Scouting Families,
As you know there has been growing concern regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Due to the ever-evolving nature of the Coronavirus and recommendation from the California Department of Public Health, the Sequoia Council is cancelling or postponing the following council-wide events in March 2020.
Any of these events that required payment will be refunded, or used towards the rescheduling of these events, or to another council event. Boards of Review will be rescheduled, if appropriate. You can contact a Sequoia Council representative to discuss applicable events.
Unit-level activities: Unit meetings are to be determined by unit leadership. Units are encouraged to follow local health department guidelines concerning group gatherings. If your unit decides not to meet in-person, we strongly encourage leaders to identify activities that youth can complete online, at home, and/or with family members. It is important to be consistent in asking youth to achieve something during this time. Some School Districts have cancelled all after school activities, which will affect any unit meeting at a School.
Wednesday night, Governor Newsom and state public health officials announced updated guidance on gatherings to protect public health and slow the spread of COVID-19. The state’s public health experts have determined that gatherings should be postponed or canceled across the state until at least the end of March. Non-essential gatherings must be limited to no more than 250 people, while smaller events can proceed only if the organizers can implement social distancing of 6 feet per person. Gatherings of individuals who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should be limited to no more than 10 people, while also following social distancing guidelines.
