National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-focused program that gives young people the tools and experience they need to lead in their home Troops, Crews, Ships, and in everyday life.

NYLT helps participants understand what a leader must be, what they must know, and what they must do. These ideas are taught through hands-on activities and practical lessons that emphasize how to lead. Throughout the course, Scouts work together in patrols and take part in the Quest for the Meaning of Leadership, an experience that brings the program’s lessons to life.

NYLT is a six-day course set in an outdoor environment, using a Troop and Patrol structure to mirror real Scouting experiences. Leadership concepts are introduced early in the week and built upon through interactive challenges, guided discussions, and shared reflection. Participants learn through doing—by leading, following, teaching, and supporting one another in a fun and engaging setting.

By the end of the week, each participant leaves with a strong understanding of effective leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills that can be applied back in their home unit and beyond.

To attend NYLT, participants must meet the following requirements by the start of the course:
