Cub Scout Day Camps ‘Take Flight’

Our 2015 Council Day Camps were a huge success! Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure a fun, exciting and safe camping experience for the Scouts and their families. Each camp did an incredible job incorporating this year’s theme “Take Flight” in their program activities. San Joaquin held their camp at Sierra Sky Park Airport in Fresno and introduced them to their Young Eagles program. The boys also did a service project and folded flags that were mailed to our Service men and women overseas. Thunderbird welcomed local “Heroes” on Tuesday for their Touch the Truck Event with Madera County SWAT Team, Search and Rescue, and Pistoresi Ambulance to visit with the Scouts and give tours of their service vehicles. Riverbend Cubs were treated to root beer floats from the A & W Mobile and a visit from the Fresno County Sheriffs Eagle One Helicopter. Live Oak Visalia did an incredible job partnering with the Visalia Municipal Airport where the Scouts spent entire day taking a tour of the facilities that included Sky Life Helicopter, Tulare County Sheriffs Light Sport Aircraft and the Tulare County Fire Departments AARF 53. The boys were also surprised with a visit from the Paso Robles CHP Helicopter on Wednesday. Live Oak Porterville Day Camp partnered with the Girl Scouts of Central Southern California for a co-ed camp experience. Boys and girls were treated to an RC plane demonstration from Exeter Hobbies. They were also presented with their “Flight School Graduation Wings” on Saturday from Colonel Steve Dwelle, retired U.S. Air Force Thunderbird Solo Pilot. Over a two week span, over 1000 Cub Scouts had a wonderful Day Camp experience!
