Sequoia Council, Boy Scouts of America
Sequoia E-News – Month of April 2014

null  Farewell Curtis!

After 12 years of dedicated service to the Sequoia Council, San Joaquin District Director Curtis Alexander will be retiring to spend quality time focusing on his music. Curtis has been a true professional and in the process has made lifelong friends in volunteers and amongst his peers. During his Scouting career, he has been a vital component to every area he has worked in. Before leaving us, Curtis was beaded as part of the Woodbadge Beaver Patrol at the San Joaquin District Camporee. Curtis will retire effective May 1, 2014. On behalf of all your friends at the Sequoia Council, we wish Curtis “Happy Trails”.

null  Good Citizenship

On February 25, 2014 during a Scout meeting, Troop 300 built a handicap ramp for longtime volunteer Alfred Stuart Sr’s home. Al, who was recently hospitalized, is a longtime member of Troop 300 and his wife Yuki, has served as Unit Commissioner for the past 7 years. The project was carried out by Life Scouts Duncan Elliott and Wyatt King. The Scouts were supervised by Scoutmaster Casey Jones, Assistant Scoutmaster Al King and Assistant Scoutmaster Kerry Elliott. Al Stuart would like to thank Troop 300 for their help and good citizenship.

null  Positive Public Relations

You can see a digital billboard at the corner of Shaw and Blackstone in Fresno where the Council is featured on a rotating basis. This is a public service from our friends at CBS Outdoor. We have also provided additional regular billboard material to CBS Outdoor for several bill boards throughout the valley. Keep an eye out! This is a great service for our Scouting families and will allow new families to find out about our programs. Thanks also go to Scouter Paul McDougal, Marketing for linking the Council to CBS Outdoor.

The Council is also purchasing “yard signs” that advertise Cub Scouting. If your Pack would like a yard sign to use and keep, please contact your District Executive.

If your unit is published in a local newspaper, be sure to clip the article and send to either Scout office. We would love to share your story.
